Full Moon — Crescent Jewelry Holders, Set of Two, by Alice Mizrachi
"Separately, they are crescents — each one a phase, a turning, a becoming. Together they close into a full moon. Like all things whole, they were always meant to find each other."
— Alice Mizrachi
These two crescent-shaped ceramic jewelry holders were made to live together. Apart, each one is complete in itself — a vessel for your rings, your earrings, your daily adornments, the small sacred objects that mark a life. But placed side by side, their curved edges meet and a full moon appears between them. Two halves of one whole. A lunar cycle made from clay, hand-painted and fired in my New York studio.
The moon has always been central to the traditions and visual languages I draw from — Sephardic, feminine, ancestral. It governs cycles, tides, time, the rhythms of a woman's body and a community's memory. To hold your jewelry inside a crescent is to place what is precious to you in something that understands the meaning of keeping.
Each surface carries the pattern language of this collection — marks that travel between the decorative and the devotional, between the personal and the ancestral. No two sets will ever be the same. This one exists once.
WAXING CRESCENT
The left-facing arc — a phase of gathering, of beginnings, of things coming into being.
WANING CRESCENT
The right-facing arc — a phase of release, of wisdom earned, of what remains after the fullness.
